Elias Gaston
Elias Gaston was born on November 10, 1844, in Baldwin County, Georgia, the son of Robert T Gaston and Nacy Murphy. The family had relocated to Mobile, Alabama where by 1850 Robert died.
On the manifest of the "Margaret", we see that there are three passengers by the name of Gaston, John, Mary, and Elias. The relationship between Elias and John and Mary is not known. According to census records, Elias had a younger brother named John. Elias was probably single as he would marry Mary Jane Joiner upon his return to Mobile. They were married on March 20, 1873, in Mobile. She is listed as Jane on the manifest and returned to Mobile with 3 of her sisters in July of 1870.
